52 Week Photo Challenge: Week 3 – Simplicity

Time for another photo challenge entry. Week 3 is the week of simplicity. I think the more you look at a photograph the more complicated it is, sometimes due to what is not in the picture, but I still made an effort. I did think of only doing black and white for this one, but sometimes color is just what I had in mind when I clicked the shutter.

What are your best photos of simplicity?

The simplicity of a clear blue sky.

52 Week Photo Challenge: Week 2 – Cold

Time for week 2 of my 52 week photo challenge. Two weeks down and only 50 to go 🙂

FYI… I am following a challenge I found on Pinterest by Two Friends Through a Lens. However, check out this one as well: http://dailypost.wordpress.com/category/photo-challenges/

This week’s theme is… COLD. Which is so fitting it almost hurts. I am ready for Spring, but I know that I have a long time to go.

Now for my take on the cold. What represents cold to you?

Frozen bubble, I had to try it 😉 I wish I had my DSLR for the pic though.

So cold that the exhaust hangs in the air like clouds. My first attempt at HDR.

Too cold to play outside

It warmed up just enough to drip… oh wait, frozen

It is pretty how the sun makes it sparkle like that.

Time for a new element

Today’s challenge was to blog with a new element. I learned today that you can embed Pinterest boards and links in a blog. I had no idea. If you haven’t heard Pinterest is a virtual pin board that you can “pin” anything from the internet or your computer. Basically it is a very addictive time suck.

I go through phases where I pin pin pin, the. Where I complete a Pinterest project every day or week and a while where I don’t even pull it up.

Anyhow, Pinterest, Facebook or twitter I have been seeing frozen bubble pictures. In short, some blew bubbles outside while it was cold (16 degrees Fahrenheit) and they froze leading to some very cool pics. I have lived in Minnesota my whole life and this activity never occurred to me. I think it may be because I don’t really do anything in the cold.

Check the pin for yourself, it looks really neat. I may have to brave the cold.

If you really get into this there is at least one Facebook group dedicated to these.

And it you are really bored, you can always throw some boiling water into the freezing air. It was -16 when I went to work yesterday.

Trying not to hide too much until spring.

The post that started it all

Today’s challenge was to write the blog post that inspired you to start blogging. Honestly, I don’t have one. I initially started this blog because that is what you are supposed to do. You are supposed to blog about sessions and pictures you have taken. You’re just supposed to.

But as my mostly empty blog displays so well, just because your supposed to do it doesn’t mean you will. I am not really sure why you are supposed to anyway. I do see how it is good to get your work out for others to see, but if it is just a chore then why do it at all?

I have decided to come at it a different way. I instead want to try learn to “art” of blogging for the sake of the blog. I want to learn to try and write something interesting instead posting a picture with the “this family was so much fun to photograph.” Don’t get me wrong, I love capturing portraits and the families are always fun to photograph. However, each family, each picture, each blog post deserves more than the same canned responses.

Another step on my journey of blogging discovery. Any tips as I continue this trip?

52 Week Photo Challenge: Week 1 – Beginning

So this is the year of challenges or at least the month of them.

This is my first installment on a 52 week photo challenge. Each week has a theme and I will post my interpretation in photos. The first theme is…. Beginning.

FYI… I am following a challenge I found on Pinterest by Two Friends Through a Lens. However, check out this one as well: http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2014/01/03/photo-challenge-beginning/

I would love to see any photo challenges that you may be completing or what is your best picture of beginning.

Okay I took these theme quite literal. I am sure that next week I will be hit with a great idea of a photo of beginning. Does that happen to anyone else or just me?

A Little About Me

So blogging has not been a high priority in 2013. Enter 2014 and one of many things I am hoping to accomplish is a more consistent blogging presence.

I want to know about who is reading the blog so please feel free to comment. I also want to share a little piece of my world with the great wide internet.

Okay the about me part… I am happily married and a mom to 3 crazy, but adorable little ones. We try to spend as much time as a family as possible, but we still watch too much tv and eat too much pizza. My husband would ask “What is too much pizza?”

I am excited to see what will develop in 2014.
